Keeping Up

I've been thinking about all the "keeping up" we do.
Sometimes speeding through life
like it's a race
Or a contest
and I'm not sure who the judge is
But I'm pretty sure
whomever I put in that seat
whether others, or me,
We don't belong there.
Somewhere along the way
We went from keeping a good reputation
To handing the decision
of our salvation
to the people of the population
or the congregation
As much as I want you
to like me
to respect me
to approve of me on some level
Somewhere along the way
I gave you the gavel
Maybe you took it by force
or maybe you never wanted it
But I gave it to you just the same
And we all know there's only one Name
on that gavel
Only One worthy to pick it up
Only One.
So I'm going to need that back.
We can help each other
Support and love our brother,
Guide if needed,
Protect and embower,
But let's leave the judging
to the only One
who can handle that kind of power.
