The Anchor and the Chain

There’s an anchor that tethers us Home
But we’re allowed a very long chain
Because of our brokenness this opens the door
To lots of grief and pain
Some like the prodigal, want to test and see
Just how long that chain might be
There are so many things to find and try
Way out in the darkness of the sea
Others, like his brother,
Stay close to home
Although they have the same chain
Out of duty or fear they choose not to roam
But they become bitter that they stayed
However, we can use our chain to leave the comfort of home
If we travel with purpose (and don’t mindlessly roam),
Gathering those who are lost at sea
Bringing them home with us so they too can be
Tethered to the only place of complete safety
How will we use the chain we’re allowed
Can we focus on making our Father proud
Bringing others to share in our place of grace
So they can rest, and see His face
And maybe after they become like Him,
They’ll grab their chain, head out again...
Being tethered to a loving Home
Is too good not to share
Our purpose and goal, is to care enough to lead others there.

“Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.” Heb. 6:18b-19‬a
